Mushroom coffee does not need a complicated recipe. If it starts with real coffee, you can use it in the same drinks you already make with regular coffee.
These five recipes are designed around Urban Calm's light, medium, dark and espresso mushroom coffees. The focus is flavour, speed and a routine you would genuinely repeat.
Before you start
For bagged Urban Calm coffee, begin around 3 tbsp (14 g) per 8 oz (240 mL) of water and adjust to taste. For iced drinks, brew slightly stronger so the ice does not flatten the flavour.
1. Dark Roast Maple Latte
Best with: Dreamer Dark Roast, Lion's Mane + Reishi
Time: about 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 strong cup Dreamer mushroom coffee
- 1/2 cup milk or oat milk
- 1 to 2 tsp pure maple syrup
- Pinch of cinnamon
Method
- Brew Dreamer slightly stronger than your normal drip coffee.
- Warm and froth the milk.
- Stir maple syrup into the coffee.
- Top with milk and finish with cinnamon.
Dreamer's darker roast character works well with maple because the coffee remains noticeable instead of disappearing under the sweetness.
2. Onward Iced Coffee
Best with: Onward Light Roast, Chaga + Cordyceps
Time: 5 minutes plus cooling
Ingredients
- 1 cup strongly brewed Onward coffee
- Ice
- Milk or plant-based milk, optional
- Maple syrup or simple syrup, optional
Method
- Brew Onward a little stronger than usual.
- Let it cool briefly.
- Fill a glass with ice and pour the coffee over it.
- Add milk and sweetener to taste.
For an even faster morning, brew extra coffee the night before and refrigerate it in a sealed container.
3. Lioness Coffee-Banana Smoothie
Best with: Lioness Espresso, Lion's Mane + Cordyceps
Time: about 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 1/2 to 3/4 cup cooled Lioness coffee
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup milk or plant-based milk
- 1 tbsp peanut or almond butter
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- Ice if needed
Method
- Add everything to a blender.
- Blend until smooth.
- Add a splash more milk if you want a thinner texture.
This is a food-and-coffee recipe, not a performance formula. Add your usual protein source separately if that is part of your nutrition routine.
4. Centered Vanilla Cream Coffee
Best with: Centered Medium Roast, Chaga + Reishi
Time: about 5 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 cup Centered mushroom coffee
- 1/4 cup milk, oat milk or cream
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp brown sugar or maple syrup, optional
Method
- Brew Centered.
- Warm the milk with vanilla and sweetener if using.
- Froth lightly.
- Pour over the coffee.
Centered's medium roast makes this an easy everyday café-style drink without needing espresso equipment.
5. Onward Chocolate Mocha
Best with: Onward for a lighter coffee base, or Dreamer for a darker version
Time: about 7 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 cup mushroom coffee
- 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 to 2 tsp maple syrup
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup steamed milk
- Pinch of salt
Method
- Mix cocoa, maple syrup and a tablespoon of hot coffee into a smooth paste.
- Stir in the rest of the coffee.
- Add steamed milk.
- Finish with a tiny pinch of salt to round out the chocolate.
Can you use K-Cups for these recipes?
Yes. Brew an Urban Calm K-Cup using an 8 oz setting as a starting point. For recipes where you want a stronger coffee presence, use a smaller brew size if your machine allows it.
Make the recipe fit your coffee
There is no special rule requiring mushroom coffee to be consumed black. Milk, oat milk, ice, maple syrup, cocoa and spices are all normal ways to make coffee more enjoyable.
The most useful recipe is the one you actually want to make again.
