Urban Calm's mushroom coffee begins more than 5,000 kilometres from Calgary, in the hills around Timaná in Huila, Colombia.
Huila is one of Colombia's best-known coffee regions, but a region name alone does not tell you much about a cup. We care about the details behind it: the elevation, varieties, processing and producer community.
High-elevation coffee from Huila
The coffee we source is grown at roughly 1,590 to 1,750 metres above sea level. At higher elevations, coffee cherries tend to mature more slowly, which can help build the sweetness and complexity specialty coffee drinkers look for.
The farms grow varieties including Castillo, Caturra and Colombia. The coffee is fully washed and solar dried before export.
A women-focused sourcing relationship
Our coffee is connected to ASPROTIMANA, a producer association in Timaná, through a women-focused sourcing program. That relationship gives Urban Calm a much more meaningful origin story than simply saying the beans are Colombian.
We know the region. We know the producer community. And we can keep women growers visible when we talk about the coffee rather than letting them disappear somewhere between farm and retail shelf.
For more on why that sourcing model matters to the brand, read Why Women-Led Coffee Sourcing Matters to Urban Calm.
Then it comes to Calgary
Once the green coffee arrives in Canada, we roast in Calgary. Roast development matters because the same origin can taste very different depending on how it is handled in the roaster.
Urban Calm uses that flexibility to create four mushroom coffee profiles. Onward is light, Centered is medium, Dreamer is dark and Lioness is our espresso roast. The roast changes, but the idea stays the same: start with coffee that deserves to be enjoyed on its own.

Why origin matters even more in mushroom coffee
Mushroom coffee is often discussed as if the mushrooms are the whole product. We see it differently. If you drink coffee every morning, taste, aroma and brewing still matter.
That is why we do not want the origin story hidden behind wellness language. The cup still begins with coffee grown by real people in a real place.
Functional mushroom extracts add another layer to the routine, but they do not erase the work that happened before the coffee reached us. For Urban Calm, the farm story and the mushroom story belong in the same cup.
